Department of Mathematics and Physics (DMP) was founded in 2000, based on the department of fundamental subjects. It was established to improve the teaching quality and research level of mathematics and physics. The faculty members are divided among the following fields, Mathematics, Physics, Information and computation science, and the experimental center of physics and computation. They have been undertaking the fundamental courses of all the schools and faculties of BIPT. Among them, eighteen are compulsory courses of undergraduate students, twenty are optional courses, and three are graduate courses.
The Faculty is distinguished for excellence by possessing a team of outstanding faculty members. There are forty people in all. Among them, six are professors, twenty-six people have got MSC or PHD. Now we are recruiting more qualified personals and also the members of the faculty are encouraged to improve themselves. The department provides wide space for all the faculty members to give full play to their talent. The vigorous and energetic team is developing sturdily. They are engaged in such research areas as differential equations, optimization, mathematical statistics, fuzzy mathematics, financial mathematics, computational mathematics, number theory, optics, optical sensors, thin film materials, etc. They have undertaken one research project sponsored by Natural Science Foundation of Beijing City, three projects collaborated with other institutes.
The faculty members are also devoted to educational innovation. Several innovative project issued by Education Bureau of Beijing City and National Education Ministry are being carried on.
The faculty emphasizes teaching excellence and has achieved great progress. Calculus and Physical experiments have become the high-grade courses when the institute held the assessment first time. Each year the students from our institute attend the mathematical, physical and mathematical modeling competition and have been rewarded by their excellent performance. Compared to its counterpart, the faculty's record is highly successful.
